Family Activities
As one would expect family activities abound on Hilton Head. Visitors and residents have found the island is much more than its championship golf and tennis, miles of beautiful beach, hundreds of restaurants and clubs, plethora of water activities, boutique and outlet shopping, and cross island leisure trails.
During the vacation season there is free family entertainment nightly at Shelter Cove by Shannon Tanner, the Liberty Oak in Harbourtown by Greg Russell, and South Beach Marina Village by Dave Kemmerly. On Tuesday nights Shelter Cove also holds a fireworks display. The Self Family Arts Center presents a year round schedule of first-rate entertainment. Visit the Coastal Discovery Museum and the Waddell Mari culture Institute to gain a glimpse of sea island life and ecology. Additionally there are numerous nature preserves and parks, like Pinckney Island just over the bridge, Newhall preserve on Palmetto Bay Road, and the Forest Preserve in Sea Pines are all pristine areas for wildlife, and great places to view some life that you may have previously only seen second hand. For the history buffs see the Baynard Ruins in Sea Pines, Fort Mitchell on Skull Creek in Hilton Head Plantation, and Fort Howell in the old Mitchellville area off Beach City Road.
Traditional family activities are also plentiful. There are fifteen movie screens, and four miniature golf complexes. We even have a small water fun park, but there are no amusement parks. One of our fun things to suggest is to play croquet on the beach and finally fly that kite you were never able to get airborne. What ever your desire, it is a good chance that you will be able to find it on Hilton Head.
