Hilton Head Island Parks
One of the first things one notices when coming over the bridge to Hilton Head Island is the trees and green spaces. Unlike most East Coast beach resorts, Hilton Head has not clear cut the area, but rather keeping in tune with Sea Pine's founder Charles Fraser's vision, Island developers, for the most part, have blended the building with the natural surroundings. Since Hilton Head became a town, it has purchased many undeveloped tracts and retained them as green space or turned them into parks. On the Island, you will find recreation parks with ball fields, tennis courts and boat ramps; passive community parks with picnic areas and vistas, as well as beach parks with parking and facilities. While on Hilton Head, you are missing out if you do not visit some of these spots.

As the Town of Hilton Head Island buys more land, more parks are built and more green areas are opened. Currently, there are plans for a passive park on Pope Avenue just east of the Sea Pines Circle. This park, at one time to be called Boggie Gut, is to be a tribute to Charles Fraser. There are also plans to connect the green area opposite the Hilton Head Resort with the Shelter Cove Community Park. This too will be a passive park offfering walking trails and vista view points along the Broad Creek.
