Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head
The Sea Pines Plantation is what put Hilton Head Island on the map and made Hilton Head the destination resort it is today. The Sea Pines Plantation, to become The Sea Pines Resort or just Sea Pines design sprung from the visionary mind of Charles Fraser. One of his prioritized visionary goals was to build an ecologically balanced resort retirement community, a community which could and would coexist with the natural surroundings. The outcome of this vision is a resort with an incredible recreational atmosphere, a resort which has become one of the world's most complete sport communities. Other Island communities and other developments have since tried to emulate Charles' vision, but they are not the Sea Pines Resort
To build his vision, Charles selected the choicest of Hilton Head Island property. Located at the southern tip of the Island; encompassing more than 5000 acres, more than five miles of pristine beach, and an abundance of natural beauty, Seapines is unlike any resort you will ever visit.
Harbour Town with its candy striped lighthouse is the Sea Pines community's crown jewel. The Mediterranean style marina village, surrounded by spectacular Sea Pines vacation rental villas, is a must visit, even if you are not staying in Sea Pines. Climb the lighthouse to get a spectacular view of the Calibogue Sound, the marina, and Daufuski Island. Of course you can't miss the 18th of Harbour Town links on the other side of the marina. Harbour Town is the spot where there have been many dramatic finishes to the Heritage of Golf.
Take a stroll around the marina and admire the yachts, laze back in the rocking chairs, do some shopping or dining, and definitely catch some of the entertainment. Gregg Russell premiers nightly under the Liberty Oak. This is a great concert for children, and you will enjoy it also. For the more active minded, every water sport can be found at the marina.
Getting around The Resort is fun. There is a free trolley which runs between Harbour Town and the Turtle Lane Beach Club, making getting to the beach hassle free. Or, use a bike and ride the miles and miles of bike paths.
At the most Southern tip of the Island is a second Sea Pines Resort marina, South Beach Village. This marina village, designed after a New England fishing village, is another great family spot. Dave Kemmerly puts on a tremendous family concert and is must see.
The Seapines beaches are spectacular. On the Atlantic side they stretch from Lands End at South Beach to Canvasback at the northern end of of the Resort. These Hilton Head Island beaches are some of the most pristine beaches you will find on the East Coast. They are also a super place to ride a bike. The Turtle Lane Beach Club is the hoi-polloi, where you will find good entertainment, and a great place to meet people. The quietest beach area is the section we call middle beach. It is between Turtle Lane and Royal Tern.
Lawton stables is the Sea Pines Plantation full service equestrian center. Here you can take riding lessons, pony rides, and scenic trail rides. The trail rides will take you through the Seapines Forest Preserve. Left virtually untouched, the Forest Preserve is a six hundred acre nature preserve A thousand foot boardwalk meanders thru the preserve and offers some great view spots for those not wanting to hike in the wild.. There are numerous fresh water lakes with some luncker bass, crappie, and a few alligators. At night if you shine a flashlight across the lakes waters, you will see their beady red eyes. Deer abound in the preserve as do other mammals and birds, so bring your binoculars.
There are no street lights in the Resort, the roads wind, and the speed limit is low. In fact, you may find cyclists riding faster than you are driving. We walk slowly, talk with a drawl, and have a great zest for nature. The Sea Pines Resort has a leisurely life style, and after you visit you will come to understand the term" The Seapines style."
