 Shipyard Plantation on Hilton Head Island is an eight hundred acre gated resort and residential community abutting the Forest Beach area. Originally, Shipyard Plantation was the sister resort development of the residential Port Royal Resort. Beautiful landscaped grounds envelope its fresh water lagoon system which is home to ten pound large mouth bass and numerous reptiles including turtles and alligators. The Shipyard Golf Club has twenty- seven championship caliber golf holes and a tremendous practice facility. Shipyard is also home to the Van der Meer Tennis Center. This club has been ranked as one of the countries top twenty- five clubs, and is surely one of the most beautiful. The only commercial enterprise in Shipyard Plantation is the Crown Plaza Hotel. Villas are the major rental unit in Shipyard although there are a few vacation homes. Adjacent to the Crown Plaza, Shipyard has a private beach club and reserved parking for the resort's guests.. Bicycling is very popular in Shipyard, and there are more than twelve miles of bike paths. The tranquility of Shipyard Plantation make it one of the Island's best vacation areas.

Driving Instructions.

  1. Coming via Interstate 95, either North or South take exit #8 to Hilton Head Island

  2. This is now highway 278: follow straight to the Island (about a 1/2 hr drive )

  3. You will go over a bridge to the Island.

  4. Two miles passed the bridge take the Cross Island Expressway. It is just passed the second traffic light and you will need to be in the left lane. If you miss it do not worry, get in the right lane and there is another entrance half mile down on the right.

  5. Follow the Cross Island, there is a $1 toll, all the way. It takes you to Palmetto Bay Road.

  6. Follow Palmetto Bay Road (after the first traffic light get into the left lane) all the way to the Sea Pines Circle. 

  7. Enter the circle from the left lane (it goes counter clockwise) and go 3/4 around exiting to the right, the third exit, on William Hilton Parkway.

  8. Travel West on WHP. After the first light merge into the right lane. the entrance to Shipyard is just before the third light.
