South Beach Vacation Rentals

The South Beach Marina Village area of the Sea Pines Resort is the narrowest and southern most tip of Hilton Head Island. It was, and by long time locals still is today, called Braddock's Point. It was named after Captain David Cutler Braddock who, in 1742 at the age of 25, was given command of of one of South Carolinas half galleys named the Beaufort. In it, Braddock cruised the Carolina coast attempting to keep an eye on the area's Spanish activities. Often times he would hide out in the small cove at Hilton Head's southern end and man the point to keep vigil. Apparently, he was in it so often it became known as his cove and bore his name.

 Later, to the Island's indigenous, the point fittingly became known as lands end. In the early  60s when Charles Fraser was into his Sea Pines development, the marketing gurus felt a need to rename the five miles of beach within the newly designed project. To them, the name Turtle Beach did not seem catchy. After much collective thinking it was determined  to divide the now Sea Pines beach into three parts. The beach from the gated entrance (Canvasback) to the Turtle Lane Beach Club would be called North Beach, the area from the Beach Club to where the Island bends would be Middle Beach, and the area near the confluence of the Atlantic and Calibogue Sound to Braddock's point would be South Beach. To those visiting and living in Sea Pines since that time, South Beach became the beach strip from Bald Eagle, at the end of South beach Lane, to the lands end.

More recently the name South Beach seems to have encompassed all the beach area from the start of South Beach Lane, Piping Plover, to the point. I guess this re marking  makes sense. Otherwise South Beach lane would not be in South Beach, but rather in Middle Beach. However, I am a hold out. To me, starting before Bald Eagle causes a problem when describing the beach. The beach area in the Middle Beach is ecologically different than that in the true South Beach area. Additionally, in my thinking,  to be in South Beach one should be able to easily walk to the South Beach Marina Village. But, to make things easier I am giving in a bit. Our listing of the South Beach vacation rental homes and villas starts at Piping Plover and continues to lands end.

The villa and vacation home rentals in South Beach area varied. The South Beach Marina Village and its immediate area is primarily comprised of vacation villas, town homes and condos with a few cottage style homes. Since 1987, there has been limited building in South Beach. Vacation rental villas and condos by then had already eaten up the majority of available land. However, many of  these South Beach vacation rental villas have been massively updated, and it ill be difficult to tell you were in a thirty five year old  property

South Beach Vacation Rental Homes

The South Beach vacation homes are also bound by land restraints, but for them there is a remedy. As long as they stay within the Sea Pines covenants, they can raze the old and build the new. The below photos depict it. The South Beach vacation home on the left was a typical and popular four bedroom Sea Pines design. Built in the late 60' it was an upside down or sweep out design. There are two primary reasons for this design. First, it allows the home to get the maximum ocean and beach view points, and  secondly, if there were to be a storm surge then it would theoretically easily pass thru the lower level.

The home on the right is its replacement. It too is a sweep out design, but the only other commonality is both being South Beach oceanfront rental homes. The tearing down of the older Sea Pines vacation homes has been ongoing. It is no longer an anomaly to find a three bedroom 2000 square feet, cedar shake, Sea Pines vacation home surrounded by massive stucco estate like homes.

Whatever your choice of style, whether it be a  two bedroom water front villa, a three bedroom beach oriented home, or an oceanfront estate there is a South Beach vacation rental awaiting your next Sea Pines holiday.

The prices of the South Beach rental homes and villas are given in the seasonal ranges. The low end naturally is the off season. Historically, this rate commences the week after Labor Day and runs until mid March. Then there is a mid point, some call it a shoulder, sport or leisure rate, that goes until the first week of June. Then it is the high season or vacation rate. During the Easter Week and the Heritage Week rates normally will be at the high end. Note: these rates are the base rates, or the rate before taxes and any fees. At the moment our tax rate is 11% Our fee is nothing, we are a free service.
